EMERGENCY HELP NEEDED

The A Wish For Animals organization is really needing blankets to keep their dogs warm! Here's what they're saying in their email:

"This is a cry for help, I need everyone to PLEASE try to get blankets for the dogs up here. It is so cold at night and some dogs tear them up so we need about 100 blankets at this time and will continue to need them all winter.

The dogs are FREEZING - it starts to get cold as early as 6:00 P.M. and the dogs are shaking cold - PLEASE -PLEASE cross post to everyone you know if you could all try to get some blankets up to these dogs."

So how about it? Send them a blanket or a donation so they can buy some blankets for their dogs!

Bad economy is bad for animals

Downturn means more relinquishments and fewer adoptions from county animal shelters.

By ERIKA CHAVEZ
The Orange County Register

Officials at county animal shelters are breathing easier these days – but not by very much.

In September, the Irvine Animal Care Services shelter was overrun with a record number of animals: 268 cats, 92 dogs and 39 rabbits.

The economic downturn was the culprit, with pet owners facing eviction, foreclosure and job loss forced to give up their beloved pets. Shelters throughout the county reported similar conditions, including Laguna Beach, Seal Beach, San Clemente-Dana Point, and the county-run OC Animal Care.

New Rescue site listed in our Orange County Pet Rescue section.

San Diego Bulldog Rescue finds forever homes for bulldogs in need.

The Animal Rescue Site is having trouble getting enough people to click on it daily to meet their quota of getting free food donated every day to abused and neglected animals.

It takes less than a minute (How about 20 seconds) to go to their site and click on the purple box 'fund food for animals' for free. This doesn't cost you a thing. Their corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate food to abandoned/neglected animals in exchange for advertising.

Here's the web site!

Attention frustrated cat owners…

11 Renegade Kittens Meet Their Match And Discover The Secrets Of Cats Who Behave!

Texas Cat Trainer reveals powerful strategies that transformed antisocial "wild cats" into lovable housecats in less than 13 days. She can do the same for your little tiger, too.

Liz Barton
  Dear Fed Up Cat Owner,

If you’re reading this, you’ve undoubtedly “had it up to here” with your cat’s bad behavior. Maybe something like this is going on in your house right now…

- Kitty is in the doghouse again because she ignored the litter box and did her business on the carpet instead.
- Your sofa looks like a tattered reject from the thrift store.
- Fun play times come to a screeching halt when your sweet ball of fur morphs into a biting psycho kitty.
- If cat poop were a good fertilizer for your houseplants, they would reach the ceiling by now.

In order to get the behavior you want, you need to get inside the feline psyche – understand how cats think and why they act the way they do - before you can even think about changing their behavior. You do this by respecting their natural instincts, instead of trying to stifle them, as most training methods teach. Only then can you pinpoint the exact reason why your cat is misbehaving, and begin to eliminate the problem immediately.

April 2008

A couple of exceptional exhibits at the recent Pet Expo 2008 held at the Costa Mesa Fairgrounds:

Homemade Doggy Dinners

We're finally starting to see more vendors who advocate a homemade natural diet for their pets.

Here at MyPetConnection we can speak from our own personal experience as to the benefits of feeding your pet nutritious, homemade food. Recently one of our 10-year old Siamese cats had a bad bout of mast cell tumors on her skin. Our vet surgically removed a lot of the cancer cells and we had her on liquid steroids to stop her from constantly licking at the new outbreaks. However, the tumors just didn't seem to go completely away and she began to lose more and more weight.

At one point she looked like a walking skeleton!

Then our cat sitter loaned us the book "The Veternarian's Guide to Natural Remedies for Cats" by Martin Zucker. Based upon some of the recipes in the book we began to feed her a combination of chicken, kale, flax seed oil, and a few supplements such as vitamin C, vitamin E, and taurine. Within 6 weeks she gained back most of her pre-surgery weight and the tumors are now completely gone!

We fully credit the better nutrition she was getting from our homemade cat food with boosting her immune system.

Today she is more energetic and lively than she's been in the last 5 years! So obviously we are very happy to see vendors advocating the benefits of natural homemade food for pets, like Homemade Doggy Dinners.
